For Some, Crocs Rock

A small, ever-so tiny part of me wants to like Crocs. Maybe even embrace them. If I ever do come around and see the beauty in Crocs, it will have been far from love at first sight. At a glance, they're not pretty. Ugly is a harsh word, but when it comes to the fierce (and often funny) debate over Crocs, "ugly" comes up again and again as the adjective of choice when describing the plastic, brightly colored footwear.

Jessica of How About Orange recently posted about Crocs. Readers- including myself- weighed in on the relative merits of Crocs. Everyone seems to agree that the shoes are super comfortable. Whether cushy insoles can justify overlooking fashion in favor of function depends on who you're asking.

Here's what I had to say about Crocs (edited):

Acceptable reasons to wear Crocs include (but are not limited to) the following:
1.) Gardening
2.) You work in healthcare and are pairing them with similarly unflattering scrubs
3.) You're part of the under-12 set

Funny how each of these categories has something to do with the greater good- greening and beautifying the Earth, saving lives, and holding the promise of the future.

I think crocs fall into the same category as Uggs, comfy yet ugly. I feel like a subruban housewife but I do wear them around the house.

I was a preschool teachers aid during my senior year of high school and this one mom of the cutest little rocker 3 year-old wore krocs one day when she dropped him off. she completely changed my view about them. she was this indie tattoo covered lady sporting krocs. i long for the day i can try to pull it off too. haha
